I recently returned from a holiday in Cornwall. I returned to a previous locale, St Ives, and its art school. Here, I attended a course in mixed media; I wanted to branch out and learn some new art techniques.
While I found the whole holiday experience stressful, the mixed media course I attended was useful. Here I was, pushing out of my comfort zone and experimenting. The mixed media course introduced me to Monoprinting, ink, and collage. Mediums I don’t have a lot of experience with.
However, I found it difficult and fell back into my more familiar methods, such as smearing paint with a knife.
While I don’t create much artwork I like, I did create some work that I felt captured what I wanted. See below for some of it.
These holidays give me an excuse to focus on the outdoors, making art about it. Not something I get a lot of time to do. I look forward to the time away from routine. Coastal areas are one of my favourite locals, a subject I often go back to, the expansive nature of the sea, the breeze, the sunshine, the waves and water. It’s an experience of the senses and is relaxing away from the crowds, giving a feeling of being more in touch with nature.
I now feel more confident with these methods and mixed media art.
